The Dangers of Technology

   

 There are several things we use every day that are not dangerous, but can be if used improperly. For example, cars are necessary to get us where we need to go and make life a lot easier. But, if you speed or drink while driving cars can be very dangerous. Technology is also one of these things. It can be extremely helpful and very entertaining, but it too has several hidden dangers.

     Credit card fraud is a huge problem on the internet. Every day people are being tricked into giving out personal information online, which is often sold by fraudsters to other people. Many people have lost several thousands of dollars because of scams like this. People are also tricked into giving out personal information when they think they have won money or other fabulous prizes.

     

Another danger of technology is too many children are left alone and unattended for hours while using the internet. This makes them an easy target for child predators to contact. It is very easy to hide your true identity online. Children often think they are talking to someone their own age and just want to make a new friend. And, predators will do whatever it takes to lure these kids into their world.

     And, computers are not the only dangerous form of technology. Some kids spend hours and hours of their day playing video games or watching television. If they are doing this, then they are not outside getting enough exercise which can lead to childhood obesity. And, they are also not spending time studying or reading which can lead to poor school performance.  Another problem with this is they are not getting any socialization skills.

     Even though technology is dangerous, it does not mean we cannot use it. Being cautious on websites you are unfamiliar with, supervising your kids when they are using the internet or limiting how much time your children can use their devices are good ways to prevent dangers. It is important to remember while technology is a wonderful thing it can also be harmful if misused.
